Speaker: Dr. Joel Alejandro Mejia 

Dr. Joel Alejandro Mejia is an Associate Professor with joint appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Engineering and the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies at The University of Texas at San Antonio. His presentation will focus on the importance of considering sociopolitical factors in the context of engineering education and using engineering as a vehicle to design for social justice. Dr. Mejia’s work seeks to analyze and describe the assets, tensions, contradictions, and cultural collisions many Latino/a/x students experience in engineering through pláticas and testimonios.
