2016 Escobedo Saint John's Bible Lecture Series featuring Mary Healy, S.T.D. --October 11, 2016
From Sanchez Loretta Liza on February 1st, 2017
"At Table with the Lord: Meals in the Gospel of Mark"
Mary Healy, a Doctor of Sacred Theology, and associate professor of Sacred Scripture at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit., is the fall semester Escobedo Saint John's Bible Lecture Series guest speaker. Dr. Healy, with Dr. Peter Williamson, is general editor of the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture, a series of commentaries that interprets Scripture from the heart of the Church. She is the author of two of its volumes, The Gospel of Mark and The Letter to the Hebrews. Her lecture will focus on Mark's Gospels and use The Saint John's Bible extensively during her talk.
The Escobedo Saint John's Bible Lecture Series is made possible by the generous gift of Ruben (B.B.A. '60) and Veronica Escobedo.
The Saint John’s Bible, the world’s newest handwritten, hand-illuminated bible, was commissioned in 1998 by the Benedictine monks of Saint John’s Abbey and University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and is the first such bible to be commissioned by a Benedictine Abbey since the advent of the printing press more than 550 years ago. The Heritage Edition, acquired by St. Mary's University, is a numbered, full-scale fine art reproduction of the original.
Lectures are free and open to the public. Those traveling to campus are asked to park in Lot D near the NW 36th St. entrance, or in Lot H, near the Culebra Rd. entrance.
