Texas Supreme Court Justice to address St. Mary’s Law gradsTexas Supreme Court Justice Paul W. Green, who earned his J.D. from the St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1977, will serve as keynote speaker at the School of Law’s 83rd annual Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 20.
St. Mary’s will celebrate the accomplishments of 239 new School of Law graduates, including seven receiving their Master of Jurisprudence (M.Jur.), 207 receiving their Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) and 25 students receiving their Master of Laws (LL.M.).
Commencement exercises will begin at 1 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena, inside the Alumni Athletics & Convocation Center on the St. Mary’s campus. Doors open to the public at noon. Media are welcome to attend.
The ceremony will be streamed live online for family and friends who are unable to attend in person. Additional School of Law ceremony information is available on the Law Commencement page.
More about Paul W. Green, from his bio
Green was elected to the Supreme Court of Texas in 2004. Before joining the court, he served for 10 years as a justice on the Fourth Court of Appeals in San Antonio.
A native of San Antonio, Green received his business degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1974 and his law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1977. After law school, Green, a third-generation lawyer, joined his father in a mid-sized litigation practice and remained there for 17 years until he was elected to the Court of Appeals in 1994.
During his career as a lawyer, Green served as president of the San Antonio Bar Association, director of the State Bar of Texas, and as a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association. He is a member of The American Law Institute and the American Judicature Society and is also a Life Fellow of the Austin, San Antonio, Texas and American Bar foundations. Green has been honored by the St. Mary’s University School of Law as a distinguished law graduate and as a recipient of the Rosewood Gavel Award for achievement in the judiciary.
Green was re-elected in 2016, and his current term ends on December 31, 2022.
