With deep sadness, I share news of the passing of T. Tylor Behrens, Ed.D., who had been Associate Vice President for Career Services since 2017. Tylor passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020, in his home. According to a close friend of Tylor’s, he had been feeling ill and consulting with a medical doctor about his condition; however, his death was unexpected.
You are invited to attend a memorial service for our colleague and friend on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. via livestream (www.stmarytx.edu/live). The Rev. Tim Eden, S.M., Rector and Vice President for Mission, and the Rev. Jim Tobin, S.M., Chaplain of the Greehey School of Business, will lead the service and join me in sharing thoughts of admiration and praise for Tylor and prayers for his family as we grieve his passing. Tylor came to St. Mary’s in January 2017 with a vision to transform our career services operation. Today, his work has established the STRIVE — Successful, Transformative Results from Innovative Vocational Experiences — Career Center, which focuses on developing essential life skills and career competencies that bridge professionalism with character-driven values. It is this focus that inspired students to pursue successful careers as vocational journeys. We remain grateful for his legacy, vision and innovation in helping our students discover their vocation, passion and skills as a pathway to identifying lifelong careers with purpose.
Tylor, as a first-generation college graduate, was especially drawn to St. Mary’s because of our students and his passion for assisting young men and women who have backgrounds similar to his own. We will always be thankful to him for following his passion and bringing new ideas and expertise to advancing the St. Mary’s educational experience.
We will miss him — our colleague, friend, mentor and teacher — and the leadership he brought to our St. Mary’s community.
